Kolobeh Sculpture, Bratislava

The Kolobeh sculpture is a work of art situated in front of The Mill administrative building in Mlynské Nivy in Bratislava. The work creates a visual and conceptual bridge between the past and the present of this area. Its aesthetics evoke the historic water mills that were located in this location.

The composition of the five elements of the sculpture is based on the geometry of millstones and it symbolizes the cyclical nature of existence – birth, growth, fullness and cessation. At the same time, this work of art uses the contrast of white concrete and ultramarine blue, which symbolically refers to water and the sky and highlights the individual architectural elements of the composition. The horizontal circular element includes a Japanese pine, representing a symbol of continuity of life and hope for the future.

Rohožník White reference project emphasising architectural béton brut

CEM I 52.5 N white cement from the plant in Rohožník was used for the implementation of the sculpture, which made it possible to achieve a high quality of exposed concrete and precise work on the details of individual elements. In total, approximately 7 m³ of white concrete was used in production, with some parts of the work weighing up to 5 tonnes.

The technologically demanding process of casting individual elements significantly contributed to the final sound of the dynamic composition and the precise work on its details.

The author of the work is Filip Šicko MA and the contractor Rapid-IS, Ing. Juraj Gajdoš. The Kolobeh sculpture is an example of the use of Rohožník White cement in the implementation of architecturally and artistically valuable structures to cultivate the public space of a modern city.
