Our white cement in Slovakia's Top 50

Proud to be part of Slovakia’s top construction stories! Our cement support some of the country’s ambitious projects, highlighted in the issue of ASB- Architecture, Construction & Business magazine. The edition also includes standout international projects — showing the industry's global reach. Read our article below to learn more about what we do and why we’re among the TOP 50!

Did you know that cement isn’t always grey?

When we hear the word cement, most of us immediately picture a heavy grey material — the backbone of most premises, bridges, and roads. But in reality, cement comes in more than one colour. Perhaps the most elegant and versatile of them all is white cement.
And no — you can’t simply paint grey cement white. White cement is made through a special manufacturing process using the purest raw materials, resulting in a naturally bright material. It gives architects and designers an entirely different palette to work with — from snow-white facades to light-filled interiors and decorative elements.

In Slovakia, white cement is produced at only one site — the Rohožník plant, under the brand Rohožník White. It is a innovative, eco-friendly product used in a wide variety of projects, from condos and public spaces to high-end architectural concrete, facades, and design elements where colour and detail are key.

Rohožník White is manufactured by Danucem, part of the international CRH Group. In our white cement production, we apply advanced technologies and take an active approach to environmental responsibility. Alongside classic cement components, we carefully incorporate additives such as limestone and blast furnace slag to reduce the environmental footprint of the final product. In particular, slag, a by-product of the steel industry, is given a second life in our cement — helping us cut down on clinker use and CO₂ emissions, while contributing to the circular economy.

We are proud that Rohožník White helps transform architecture both in Slovakia and bring new life to both modern and historic buildings.

One of our highlights is the renovation of the RTVS building in Košice — a key centre of Slovak. Let us take a closer look at this project.

RTVS
Slovakia’s media hub

When people think of Slovak Radio and Television (RTVS), they often imagine the famous “Inverted Pyramid” building in Bratislava. However, the RTVS in Košice also holds an important place in the country’s media landscape. Located just steps from the city’s historical heart, it serves as a dynamic hub for radio and television production The architecture of the RTVS center reflects the contemporary style of its era, with clean lines and a strong structural presence.

Recently, the facility underwent an extensive renovation of the central administrative building, aimed at preserving its architectural value while improving functionality and energy efficiency. This project was led by DGA design graphic architecture s.r.o., whose team aimed to preserve the iconic heritage while introducing subtle sustainable interventions that enhance both aesthetics and usability. During this transformation, Rohožník White cement was chosen to give key elements of RTVS’ exterior and interior a fresh and timeless look.

The key part of the renovation was the refurbishment of the facades. The work was conducted by Swisspearl Group AG, who implemented a combined weather protection and ventilated facade system. Vertically mounted Swisspearl panels in a copper tone were used for the main cladding, complemented by grey plastered pilasters and vertical strip windows that add rhythm to the design.

For the facade of the broadcast area, which projects above the surrounding control rooms and office spaces, naturally dried fibre cement panels of the type Reflex Amber 4071 were installed. Diagonally cut, these panels create a distinctive and dynamic visual effect that refreshes the building’s appearance while respecting its original modernist character.

But the story of Rohožník White extends beyond Slovakia. Our cement is also helping to shape standout architectural projects across Europe. Let’s travel north to the Baltic region, where the cool Nordic charm of Vilnius awaits.

Paupys Business Quarter
A modern face of Vilnius

Nestled in a redeveloped district along the Vilnele river, Paupys Business Quarter brings new energy to a former industrial part of Vilnius’ Old Town. The complex combines office spaces, shops, cafes, and a small cinema — creating a welcoming and multifunctional environment for the local community.

Designed by Audrius Ambrasas Architects for the developer DARNU Group, with construction works carried out by Mitnija, the project balances contemporary structural design with respect for the area’s historical character. Innovative structures are thoughtfully integrated into the existing urban setting, with an emphasis on sustainability and quality of life.
A key architectural feature is the facade, implemented by DAKO GRC using advanced glass fibre reinforced concrete panels. White cement was selected to achieve a crisp, light-toned surface that echoes the cool elegance of the Baltic cityscape. The result is both visually refined and built for long-term durability.

After contributing to the austere, minimalist architecture of Vilnius, Rohožník White moves on to another vibrant European capital — London.

Cherry Park Residences
Life in vibrant East London

In Stratford — a lively East London district known for its smart shopping, green spaces, and excellent transport connections — Cherry Park is becoming one of the city’s most attractive new residential addresses. Found next to Westfield Stratford City, this large Build-to-Rent development offers around 1,200 state-of-the-art homes, complete with a gym, swimming pool, co-working spaces, and landscaped public areas.

The facades, designed and delivered by DAKO GRC, feature smooth, durable panels that bring a refined texture and clarity to the exterior. To achieve this effect, white cement was essential — creating a calm, elegant appearance that complements the surrounding urban landscape.

Today, Cherry Park offers residents a fresh and inviting place to live — a vivid pocket of East London where thoughtful architecture meets everyday life.
